Hey. Enough with the wood malarkey – I’ve been back painting on paper. For the record, Rives BFK is the shiz. It can take so much water and still dry flat. Love it
Anyways, here’s a peek at a couple of all new pieces for some shows coming up this month.
First up, the first work I’ve done for London Miles in (duh) London. I’ve been working on something for the “Literal.Eyes” show opening on 12th May and man, I suffered for this one. It’s actually the 3rd piece I did with the show in mind.
The way I work is very much “make it up as i go along”. I start with half an idea and kind of get in a groove, the painting finds it’s own voice. With this (and a few other upcoming pieces) I’ve been working to fit a theme for a group show and it’s been a f**kin painful process! In this case the theme was art inspired by literature.
Hand on heart, my literary awareness probably extends as far as spiderman comics, but there was something in the idea of Shakespeare’s Hamlet that I though could work with the vibe I was in. Well, I’m pretty damn happy with where I ended up anyway.
I’ve also been working on a piece for the good folk at CAVE Gallery’s upcoming 3rd anniversary show, opening May 23rd. I’ll post a proper pic nearer the date, but here’s a peek at a detail for now.
So whats up.
I think i’ve been on a bit of a detour of late. I’ve been trying out a few new ideas and techiniques, some have worked a lot haven’t.
There’s been a fair few paintings added to the trash, but it’s all good – i think I’ve got to a point I can come back to what i enjoy doing most and bring something of a new perspective to it (well, in my head it’s a new perspective, quite likely it all looks exactly the same to everyone else!)
I’m working with 1xRun on putting together a timed edition print run of a new piece. Still finalising which one, but very excited to see it happen over the next couple of months.
My painting for the Vices show at London Miles was sent off and framed this week – just in time for the show to be put back. Gah! At least for once I’m all done and ready way in advance of a deadline.
Anyhow, here’s a taster of some of the stuff I’ve been working on. Hope you like.
I’ve been working on this on and off for a few weeks. The ceramic thing’s not going to happen now, but hopefully I’m going to be working with some folks on a limited timed release print run. More news as and when.
Despite the fact that I feel I’ve not done much this year, I’ve completed 2 new paintings for a couple of upcoming shows at London Miles the first of which is a show based on the theme of Vices opening on 25th March. I’ve worked on the theme of Vanity. I’ll put some pics up….soon! Really excited to be working with London Miles.
Also, the piece I did for Phone Booth Gallery’s David Lynch Themed show got accepted. Woohoo!
So, a few details on my first show outside of the UK!
I’m stoked to be part of the “Crooked Comfort” show at CAVE Gallery, at their new space on 1108 Abbot Kinney Blvd, Venice CA, starting December 10th.
I’ve been hard at work on a bunch of new stuff – 10 new paintings continuing my stream of consciousness ramble through a landscape of skulls, crows and girls with big hands. As well as the OG’s there’ll be some limited edition giclees of selected pieces.
It’s going to be a great finish to a busy year for me – I hope some of you can make it! Here’s a taster of some of the work:
I’ve just uploaded some pics to my flickr of the opening night at Electrik Sheep of my first solo show last week.
It was great to finally see the work “out there” after a few months of hard work/panic. A few beers drunk, lot’s of people and a really good night all ’round!
If you want to see the full set, check out my Flickr, if you have a poke around you’ll also find shots of the work and I’ve also uploaded a gallery of sketches that i’m intending to add to over time.
If anyone is anywhere in or around LA this weekend, check out the Beyond Eden Art Fair, running Oct 9th – 10th.
Looks like it’s going to be a sweet event with some awesome work on show, plus, I’ve got 2 new paintings showing with CAVE gallery in advance of an upcoming show. Bonus!
Go check it out for arty goodness.
A little heads up on my first solo show next month at Electrik Sheep in Newcastle.
Hugely stoked about the upcoming show. There’s a bunch of new work that I’ve been focused on the past few months, some pieces I’ve posted on the blog, but a whole bunch of unseen stuff too.
“Droodlings” features paintings on paper alongside some of the other materials I’ve been working with recently – some collage, some painting on wood and found materials, alongside 3 all new limited edition prints. The show runs October 14th through to November 12th, hope to see some of you there at the opening. If you do make it, be be sure to come up and say hello.
Here’s a few teaser pics of some new work, more detailed pics to come later!
